Greenologii is an exciting entrepreneurial project launched by Enactus TMU (Toronto Metropolitan University). Our project’s focus revolves around a simple yet powerful idea: utilizing potato starch to create a sustainable biopolymer. Our ultimate goal is to address the issue of single-use plastics by providing a fully biodegradable alternative. Equipped with this abundant polymer and driven by scientific ingenuity, we are committed to leading the charge in transforming the world of sustainability.

Our potato-based biopolymer is not only eco-friendly but also holds tremendous potential for versatility. Its ability to be molded into virtually any shape or form opens up a world of possibilities for diverse applications we are eager to explore in the future. From packaging materials to consumer goods, our sustainable and functional biopolymer is ready to change the game.

Our History

  • 2018

    Project Secure was created to address the issue of food waste by turning wasted food into juice. We partnered up with other resolute organizations and created sustainable change.

  • 2019

    After consulting with various industry professionals, we realized that plastic pollution was a growing issue that needed to be tackled due to its increasingly detrimental impact on the environment.

  • 2020

    Project Secure was rebranded Greenologii as we shifted our focus to utilizing food waste as a sustainable plastic substitute. We started focusing on potatoes; a commodity that is often wasted.

  • 2021

    Through meticulous lab work and experimentation we created out first prototype using potato starch. This success taught us more about our product capabilities and limitations.

  • 2022

    We developed a second prototype and conducted interviews with stakeholders and brand owners, including local farmers and business leaders, in order to finish our market validation.

  • The detergent industry faces several sustainability challenges, despite efforts to incorporate reusable packaging. While reusable packaging can reduce waste, it doesn't address the underlying environmental impacts of the product. To make a significant difference, the industry needs to prioritize developing detergent packaging that is truly eco-friendly, using plant-based and biodegradable ingredients. In other words, the coat around conventional laundry pods does not fully disintegrate and leaves tiny pollutants in the environment. Greenologii is focused on combatting this issue with our innovative sustainable packaging solutions.

  • Greenologii is a student-run project under Enactus - Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). Our team consists of students from a variety of backgrounds, including but not limited to business, chemistry, environmental studies, and communications. We are focused on developing sustainable packaging solutions using a polymer derived from potatoes (which can be used for many purposes besides french fries).
